Printed forms, finished by hand

3d Prints and Props is a Canadian-owned maker space in London, Ontario. We print each model in high-resolution additive layers, then finish it at the bench with studio acrylics.

Base method

Calibration to finish

Each surface is checked before paint

Before a piece leaves the printer, we calibrate the build and smooth the surface to remove visible layer lines. Fine brush work then brings out the details, from eyes and seams to small edge highlights.

Articulated pieces get extra attention. We test joint tolerance and assembly so the figure moves smoothly for display, costume, or handling.

Our process

Three steps from print to finish

01

Print calibration

We tune each printer and confirm the build before a model is released, so forms come off the bed clean and true.

02

Surface smoothing

Layer lines are sanded and filled where needed, then the surface is prepared for paint and detail work.

03

Hand finishing and coating

Studio acrylics are applied by hand, then a clear protective coating seals the finish for display and handling.
